Raining, cats, and dogs
It's much rainier this time of year compared to when we usually come here, but until last night we'd defied the forecasts and enjoyed almost completely dry days. Today the weather reverted to the seasonal norm, but that's fine - we're heading for home tonight.
On previous visits, we'd been aware of a few stray dogs wandering onto the hotel premises, and while we never minded that I've seen multiple reviews commenting negatively about it. The hotel was closed for almost 2 years during the pandemic, and when they came to reopen it they found a pack of about 30 stray dogs had taken up residence! The hotel have responded by launching an animal welfare programme, with a full time employee responsible for their care. The dogs are now well fed - previously they were poor, scrawny things - and receive veterinary/health care. Several have been rehomed by local adoption, and one has found its forever home in Germany. I couldn't resist a shot of this girl who has Hendricks-like markings :)
The programme is currently being extended to cats, several of whom are be found stalking the diners in one of the restaurants. This one was avidly watching plates from among the rafters.
