Lines

The girl is at the end of a line that wraps around to that bus in the background, just to get to university. I am so glad I went to university in the US, where it's common to live on or near campus, and my longest commute to class was about a 20 minute walk (uphill in the snow, each way!). In Japan, people usually stay at home during their college years, and end up having to commute, often times for over an hour, to get to class. I can barely stand going one stop crammed on the train one morning a week, I can't imagine doing it every day for four years.

On an unrelated note, I'd like to talk about my little sister. She is an amazing girl. Goes to university and spends a lot of time working hard in many volunteer organizations. She's worked hard her whole life and it's paying off for her (full-ride college scholarship, semester in London), and I can't say enough how proud I am of her. I gave her a lot of shit for how she was wearing herself ragged, always running around from one activity to the next, but honestly, if I could only be a fraction as driven as she is, I would've done some much bigger with my life to this point.

Now, she's trying for something big again. She sent in a video submission to be the next guide/host for a nature and wildlife program and got selected to the final 12, which means she's in the public voting phase.
