Porridge at school

Hectic day today so a late blip for me! Was out at a few of our early childhood centres today and while I was at one, the primary school next door were having their breakfast. School in Malawi is poor and after a study it was found that many children were not having anything to eat before going to school and so they could not concentrate. Now in our primary schools, various NGO's have come in and assist in giving porridge to the children. This has resulted in the drop out rate in primary school being lowered dramatically and children are more alert in class.

The porridge is called Likuni Phala and is fortified with various different things like groundnuts, beans etc to give some nutrition.

This little girl was quite shy but was delighted when I showed her the picture!
