The Void

Can you see the solid foundations under the path? No? Well, the "foundations" under our extension (built before we bought the house) are exactly the same - non-existent, which is why we're having to have it underpinned before building another floor above it.

Our builder seemed torn between shock at how bad the so-called foundations were (just brick rubble, basically, loose enough to be taken out by hand) and amazement that the extension hadn't collapsed long ago.
