Wood, again.
Remember that time we were chattin' about petrified wood? Well here's some more! This time not as colourful, or shiny, but none the less stunning. This specimen has been highly polished, which picks up all the lovely details. The dark brown central section is called the heartwood, which in a living tree is quite resistant to decay. Perhaps this is why this section has remained 'wood-like' during the petrification process? Fascinating!
