Eccup
Always look up when walking as you never know what you might see!
Today A & I saw a Red Kite perched on a dead tree, a crow was keeping it company. We don’t often see them perched openly.
We walked 3.7 miles round Eccup resrvoir, we wisely set off clockwise thereby leaving the muddiest (across a field) quarter until last. Our boots were caked in mud. We have been lucky so far this Winter as the dry cold frosty weather meant not having to clean our boots.
At the causeway we stopped to look at the reflections on the water which were beautiful, the still surface was broken by bird activity , Wigeon smewing, various geese braying like a pack of Foxhounds.
We realised today that our grand sighting of a small flock of Serin last Wednesday was incorrect, now downgraded to the more realistic Winter visitor Siskin, a no less striking yellow headed finch.
The late afternoon sun was still noticeably high, there was a giddy moment of joy, a realisation that lighter evenings are on the return.
