A timely reminder.
We have 5 nest boxes round the garden. Each nest box needs cleaning out before the next breeding season for a couple of reasons, first, they will eventually get full also there could be various parasites and bugs, not to mention possibly dead chicks (not all of a brood always make it).
By law you are not allowed to disturb nest boxes after the 31st of January, so if you happen to have any get out and do the job soon.
The blip shows our "woodcrete" nest box which last year was occupied by Great Tits. As you can see there is a substantial amount of nest material left, another year's nest on top and the space would be virtually full.
P.s. Woodcrete is as the name suggests a sort of sawdust concrete, this makes the box lighter and warmer than otherwise.
