In the bleak Midwinter
This morning it was sunny again and we went for a very pleasant walk from our house. The main blip was taken from Whiteshute Ridge looking towards Winchester city centre, with the cathedral quite visible. It was up here in the summer where we found lots of glow worms in the long grass. Now, a few British White cattle are grazing the area. (One of them can just be seen). The extra shows frosted ivy berries and leaves.
We continued on to Yew Hill butterfly reserve and then back home via Compton.
We saw over twenty five species of bird, including Greater Spotted Woodpecker , Goldcrest, Sparrowhawk, Bullfinch, Lapwing, and Stonechat, although sadly not nearly the numbers of birds we would have seen some twenty years ago .
