Self-help
A couple of years ago the mount on my 200-500 wildlife lens came loose. Or rather the connection to the camera with it got loose. Sent off to be sorted, it cost a small fortune, and while cheaper than a new lens, it was a bit of a hit. So when the same problem surfaced a few weeks ago, and the lens stopped speaking to the camera, and I couldn’t really afford such a monumental bill again….
This arrived from China today for the princely sum of £35 (first time trepidatiously buying something through Alibaba). I managed to remove the old mount, remarkably without dropping any of the 6 tiny screws, or breaking the ribbon cable for the data transfer, got this back in and…. Boom. Back in business.
The connection is tight again (not absolutely solid, but roughly a million times better), and it’s on speaking terms with the camera for focussing and applying the correct f stop.
