Pathetic Fallacy

I got back from Mandy's after a dreadful journey as the weather was so bad to find out that Ruben had died this morning.
I thought I was going to have to stop at the services at one point and was even going so far as planning that I had all my sleep over stuff so would book into a service motel if necessary, it was so bad.
Got home though and once in the dining room I got the toothpaste and toothbrush out that Ben gave me and Rob said ‘here’s no need. He’s gone’ and then I realised he hadn’t come to see me. He then told me what happened and not sure how much of it I was taking in tbh.
Apparently about 6am he heard a loud bang from the lobby - sounding like it was his water bowl so he got up to see what was going on and found Ruben stuck with his head under the little table. He got him out asking him what on earth he was doing and Ruben then walked through his water bowl into the studio and got his head stuck again by the washing machine. He went out for a wee but no leg cocking and then Rob got him back in. He had no idea where he was and seemed to be both deaf and blind walking into all sorts and not being able to settle. Rob quickly went and got dressed and rang the emergency vet but couldn’t have him in the small car so rang Adam who came over to pick him up. (I'd got the bigger car as it's safer to drive for long journeys.) They went back to their house as Adam said he wanted Jennie to see him so both she and Freckle saw him in the back of the car. Jennie went with Rob to the vet as Adam had meetings starting at 9 in his new role. Jennie stayed in the car while Rob took him in and the upshot was the vet thought he’d had a brain lesion which if you google comes up with a brain tumour but given his previous history we’re going with another stroke. Whatever it was it seriously affected his brain and it was agreed that there would no recovery so he was euthanised. Jennie went in to see him. She didn’t know if she should but said she is really glad she did. They then spent part of the day together. Rob stayed with them till lunchtime ish, I’d say. They took Freckle for a walk then came back here as Adam had to bring him back, and they had chip butties. Couldn’t tell Jessica till about 7 as she had been at work till about 615. I came down from my bath and Rob was on his laptop e mailing people about it and I could see he’d been crying. He is understandably finding it harder than all of us. As the weather’s so crap it’s not so much of an option to go out either which means we’re in the house where he would constantly be under our feet, begging for a crust as we eat our sandwiches, and putting his head on your knee for a fuss.
We’ve had him on borrowed time though I guess after the September event, and in that time he’s had Christmas and a weekend away with us so really we just have to continue to count our blessings for having such a lovely soul share our lives for so long.
