"Give it to Billy"

...the refrain of the Wigan Rugby League fans in the 1950s and 1960s when Billy Boston scored 478 tries in 488 games for the club.  His statue is in Believe Square (name taken from a slogan "Believe in Wigan") with one of Wigan's Modernist icons in the background, the old civic centre, awaiting redevelopment.

My brother took me on a fascinating tour of Wigan today, reminding me of all the fine Victorian buildings that I remember from my childhood and the more recent ones that post-date my departure to university.
