Sorting willow

This was just a quick job between matting club and book group, but it was very satisfying and I like how the bundles look. I learnt a lot with my first basketry project, and I ended up with a misshapen basket because I didn’t choose the thickness of willow rod for each part of the basket carefully enough. If you put too thin ones into the framework and then use too thick ones to weave around them, the thick ones will deform the thin ones. So before starting the next basket I have sorted all my rods into bundles according to thickness. Hopefully my next basket will have a nice regular shape as a result.
