Avalon

Today was the last day of our mini break in Somerset.   Originally we had picked the Street/Glastonbury area due to its closeness to some nature reserves including the Avalon Marshes Centre.  So on leaving our digs we headed for Avalon.  After a coffee at their information centre we walked down the road to the start of Sweet Track.  This track through the marshes and reedbeds is a prehistoric route laid down in 3806 BC when tribespeople could manoeuvre between settlements safely in the dangerous marsh land. It was discovered in 1970 by Ray Sweet, hence the name, many ancient artefacts were discovered by the pathways.

The pathways wind through the woods and the whole place felt very special to me, at peace in its old age.  We only covered a small part of the woods, but I would go back to explore more.  I spotted a redwing amongst the reeds but couldn't get a clear shot of it, see extras.

Then home with pit stops at Bristol and Gloucester Services.

Looking at the car, just six days old, it appears to have gone through a very muddy rally!  Pleased to say it was reliable and comfortable.
