Ice bubbles

This is what our pond looks like at the moment - thick ice but with frozen bubbles beneath the surface.  The bubbles are/were emanating upwards from the bottom of the pond, though how anything can survive this cold I can't imagine.

A close up of one of the bubbles in extra.  It looks amazing but may be gone tomorrow as the forecast is for milder weather.
