Small suns
Walking up this old carriage road (No Public Right of Way) I spotted my first lesser celandines of the year, blooming a month earlier than tradition dictates. They have to steal a march on the trees and strut their stuff before the woodland canopy shades the ground. Tiny sun worshippers, they flash their glossy petals to attract pollinators and to warm up their reproductive parts. Soon there will be a shower of these golden stars, all over before we realise spring is upon us, much too soon.
