Anyone for a swim?

A new parkrun today - Malling, in the Kent countryside. Just a couple of laps of the lake and it was done.
I had the chance to watch some swimmers gingerly easing themselves into the extremely cold water. Mrs S asked a group of ladies, who were preparing for a dip, why they did it. The reply was "Because we are stupid". They then explained the benefits and recommended starting in the summer.
