Unbending
Gymnospermium albertii, opening it's first flowers. The shoots emerge bent over as they push through the soil and slowly straighten as the flowers open. This little bulb (really it's a tuber) from rocky hillsides in Soviet Central Asia, is bone hardy and will reputedly grow outside although wet summers would be bad news I think. Mine, raised from seed, live in the greenhouse or cold frame. They are surprisingly related to Berberis, I can relate only the yellow flowers to the spiny, shrubby Berberis.
A day mostly spent waiting for nothing to happen. Some of this due to an administrative mix up. Frustrating. Jamie and I took Bella to the seafront, nice walk. Due to the lost time, Meg had to make do with chasing her ball in the last minutes before it got dark.
