…or sun dogs. They are caused by ice crystals in the atmosphere, and I am sure there was a lot of ice in the air today. I’ve often seen one of them, but rarely two almost equally bright ones on both sides of the sun - so I just had to blip them.
After a freezing night and grey, windy morning, the sun came out around lunchtime. I hadn’t got out in sunshine all week, so I quickly went for a walk. It turned into a rather short and brisk one, as the wind was still biting. But the blue sky and sunshine more than made up for the cold.
Extra: one of many pretty teasel seedheads along the way.
