The Guildhall, Northampton
After more catching up over a leisurely breakfast, the six of us set off for a wander round the old centre of Northampton, where the Guildhall is the most eye-catching building.
Northampton was probably the main centre of the shoe making industry (which is hard to admit living in the home of Clarks shoes!) and we spent some time in the towns shoe museum which has a fascinating display of shoes over the ages and two interesting films on the shoe making process and the history of it in the town. Sadly there are only a few independent factories left in the town which seem to specialise in high-end, very expensive shoes.
Afterwards we stumbled across the local brewery which has its own tap room, so it would have been rude not to have sampled their produce! We also managed to spend time in two coffee shops and drive out to nearby Delabre Abbey for a brief stroll in the garden before dusk sent us back to the hotel bar and another excellent meal.
Meanwhile, Yeovil were managing their first away win of the season, 2-0 at Dagenham and Redbridge.
