Bedford has a good live music scene and most weekends I attend at least one live band playing in a local pub. Generally the musicians are white male playing cover versions of popular songs from the 50s, 60s etc. A couple of bands are distinct. There's Duzzy Avocado, a female 3-piece who play covers, but also compose some of their own material, and the Flaming Wet Gurus, who I saw for the second time this afternoon. I love this band! A mixed bag 7-piece with a truckload of unexpected instruments that they seem to switch between for each song. Some are covers, but always an original take, and others are band originals. Songs I recognised this evening included Golden Brown by the Stranglers, Ghost Town by the Specials and Dona Dona by Joan Baez, which is historic, haunting, particularly poingnant this week for Holocaust Memorial.
As well as the usual array of guitar/sax/bongo, we were also treated to Melodica, Triangle, Glockenspiel and Cumberland Sausage.
