Cold and colourful

Owen and I are up early. Bookshelves and another load moved from Cowshed to house. We’re getting there.

Later, we take the car back to Dalkeith. Owen drives back to the Cowshed, while I wait for Kerry to pick me up.

As we hit the bypass, I’m wrapping up a cash with Emma about the Edinburgh hub for this year’s Agile Alliance conference. Exciting stuff, but not very sociable.

In Glasgow, car parked, it’s time for some food before the gig. There’s an authentic Chinese restaurant opposite the Cambridge Road car park, where we have an interesting meal - although Kerry doesn’t like the spare rib chow mein. Also, so much did that we’ve got enough for tomorrow.

The Celtic Connections Song Circle is at the Theatre Royal - and it’s packed. We’re here for Karine Polwart and Julie Foulis, but the main attraction seems to be Mary Chapin Carpenter. It’s a great gig, and Karine’s pieces stand out for me. An old song inspired by a park bench in Pathhead and an amazing solo performance of Sorry. Two new songs - one about a tree called Barbara near Harthill services and another hypnotic tune incorporating the words of Charles Simic’s last poem:

THE WIND HAS DIED

My little boat,
Take care.

There is no
Land in sight.
