Tsunami warning
Keiron the government officer roused us at 5am having been woken himself by a pleasant phone call warning of a tsunami from a scale 7 earthquake the near the South Sandwich Islands. Squeezing as many pairs of socks on as possible and chucking as many chocolate bars as I could into my rucksack, we were up the hill and sitting on the side of mount Dues in the snow with 25 minutes to go! Just enough time for a quick picture. "Well, its a lovely night for a tsunami" pretty much summed up the mood.Fortunatly we watched the sun come up on a placid calm sea, with the threat having passed and bums sufficiently frozen. Here is a photo of Keiron making one of many calls via sat-phone to try and find out when the wave was due to arrive.
