What fascinates about the Komodo Dragon ?

I ask myself this question and come to realise that as a general purpose animal lover, I am drawn to animals where the hand of evolution is so apparent in appearance, hence crocodiles, rhinos, elephants etc.

The Komodo dragon is found on five Indonesian Islands, unfortunately Bali isn't one of them, but on my recent visit via Singapore, I spotted this guy in the botanical gardens. He was about a meter long. They are large monitor lizards and I have spent hours watching YouTube videos of the really big ones eating live goats in several gulps. This is something I want to see live at some point.
