Sunset Song by Lewis Grassic Gibbon
I featured this book a short while ago, but didn't feel the picture came out well. It's a beautifully produced edition. I have been reading it for quite a while now because the prose is dense and peppered with unfamiliar words - Doric, Buchan, Scots. So it's slow going. I'm seeing Gibbon's strengths, but also his weaknesses. (Everyone seems to blush at the drop of a hat.) At the same time I've been editing a little story of my own, after a kind writer friend gave me a good steer on it.
