London Brick Stewartby
Met my daughter in law and grandson for lunch today at The Kiln in Stewartby.
I was a few minutes early so I walked around for my blip.
It’s a fairly unique place around here as the whole village pretty much has been created out of the original brickworks which started there in 1897.
The main picture shows what was once the main HQ of London Brick. In extras you can see how the building looked in about 1926 when surrounded by all the tall chimneys. (That picture is just a screenshot courtesy of and all credit due to (or whatever acknowledgment you are meant to give) the Stewartby and Kempston Harwick Parish Council website)
I also took a couple of photos of the village/memorial hall in the centre and close up of the door. Just love that inscription "licensed in pursuance of act of parliament for public music and dancing" and the coats of arms above.
When we lived in Old Warden, our long standing next door neighbour Ron worked for LBC and when he died his wife Mary moved into one of the bungalows which form a large part of the village.
Final extra, found another old post box outside the village shop. Not in use however.
Tagging the main picture for Derelict Sunday.
Sorry for such a long read - not like me is it :-)
