33/365 Wall Plaque

Seen on the church wall by the entrance to the graveyard. You see similar signs outside any church where there are military personnel from the Commonwealth buried. I think that there are two graves to be found in our village although I'm not sure where the poor souls are from but would kindly have a look if anyone wants to know.

I would expect that they were airmen as Atherstone-on-Stour a few miles along the road from here did have a base in WWII. Stratford Cemetery have at least twenty graves, not all Commonwealth ones, and they are always so well cared for.

Of course the ones I've mentioned are not on the scale of the cemeteries found in Normandy and elsewhere in Europe but it is still very poignant to reflect on how and why they are in a small English village graveyard, far from home.

Being more upbeat, I am glad to say that our new fencing is finished and the workmen were so professional about everything including tidying up afterwards. I couldn't fault them. Even the cost was very reasonable for what they have done.

Another story for another day might be the ongoing saga of the parcel which was eventually collected last week.
