Bookclub book choice
Our bookclub in the village has changed the way it chooses books to read. We start by picking a genre out of a hat. Then selecting a book in that genre to read. We are currently reading 'The Outsiders' by SE Hinton from the genre - written by a young writer.
Our March book genre is a Biography. Well this is HUGE! So many Biographies and so many types of Biographies. We eventually decided to each pick our own Biography to read and then report back and share each others books around the group.
After a protected search on Google and many websites, I came across this. Described as a Biography, social history and folk-song, 'The Captain's Apprentice' by Caroline Davison, is how Ralph Vaughan-Williams, while collecting folk songs on a visit to King's Lynn, Norfolk heard a brutal song called The Captain's Apprentice' but with the most beautiful melody he had ever heard. It influenced his music and the author describes the lives and comparisons of Vaughan-Williams group and those of the people living in Kings Lynn at the time.
It sounds fascinating and I can't wait to read it ... but I've got to finish the Outsiders first!
