Basil
It's the best crop I've grown since living in Cooktown in the late '90s. Plentiful branches bearing huge leaves.
Perfect for passata, for pesto and for eating straight from the plant with a tomato also straight from the plant.
It has been very hot today, reaching 33 degrees mid-afternoon. Fortunately thundery clouds arrived not long ago, accompanied by a fresh cooling breeze from the east. What a relief. Bean and I are re-energised by the drop in temperature. We'd both been flattened since lunchtime.
