200 years of the markets in Guernsey…
And what better place to hold an exhibition celebrating it than in the Crossan Gallery in the market.
When I was young the fruit and vegetable, flower, meat and fish market were busy and buzzing with life; packed with produce but changing habits meant people relying more and more on their cars and supermarkets. And the market trade just dropped away. But these glorious buildings were repurposed. While I don’t agree with every alteration I think overall they’ve done a good job and I hope John Wilson the architect who designed the 1822 meat and fish market would approve.
