Acorns on a String

Went for a walk around town and saw these acorns. They were hanging on a string above someone's fence going all the way around their yard. I'm sure there is some sort of practical reason for having them there, like keeping deer out of your yard by making your fence harder to jump over, but I just thought they looked cool.
