ANONA CHERIMOYA. AKA Custard Apple

Today, at the Farmers’ Market, I saw this unusual tropical fruit. My friend, from Ecuador, is very familiar with CHERIMOYA. She said it tastes like a combination of pear & pineapple. I was able to taste it &
it was very sweet & juicy like a ripe pear;
but with large seeds & inedible skin.
It was quite delicious & I could understand why is is sometimes called CUSTARD APPLE, due to its creamy texture.

These dense, fast growing, shrubby trees
are native to tropical Central America, but also grown here in Southern California, South America, Asia, Australia & North Africa. The conical or heart shaped fruit ripen in late Winter & early Spring. I am told the fruit in my Blip are small. They are usually quite large.

Mark Twain called the CHERIMOYA
“the most delicious fruit known to men.”
