Wall Box WB87
An example of how a simple photograph can lead you to waste lots of time researching something you did not realise you were interested in.
This Victorian wall style post box is sporting a modification from circa 1956 when one man with a Land Rover and an oxyacetylene torch went round the 10,000, mostly Type C small Victorian and Edwardian, wall boxes to enlarge the aperture to accept larger envelopes.
I discovered this gem of information on the website of the Colne Valley Postal History Museum , a private museum in East Anglia dedicated to post boxes, stamp vending machines etc. Thanks also to Wikipedia on Wall Boxes and "Pauls Unofficial Letterbox Pages|"
And all because I posted a letter on the way to Pilates this morning.
