What Time Is Now?

2200 and no blip. So I reflected on the day and noticed a recurrent motif; time. I woke up half an hour late because I forgot to turn the alarm clock on last night. Arthur was selected to appear on this August's Child Dokei, an online clock which shows a different photograph of a child with a board showing the time for each minute of each day. The photograph stays up for one minute every day for one month. This evening, when I went for my 10 km run, my pedometer fell off and I didn't notice until I reached home.

I could have gathered at least fifteen devices with time displays on them for this photo. Are we not increasingly slaves to time?

"Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so."
(Douglas Adams, The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy)

"I love deadlines. I love the whooshing sound they make as they fly past."
(Douglas Adams)

"Time is the school in which we learn, time is the fire in which we burn."
(Delmore Schwartz)

"Clocks slay time... time is dead as long as it is being clicked off by little wheels; only when the clock stops does time come to life."
(William Faulkner)
