The 'Walderveense Molen', Walderveen

Walderveen = 'Wal-der-veyn'
It's a hamlet east of Utrecht, so the mill is simply called the Walderveen Mill.  Simple and to the point.

Beautiful, sunny day.  I would have liked to say 'warm, sunny day', were it not for the fact that there was still ice on the windshield when I left for some supermarket errands late in the morning.

Walderveen is close to the A30, a motorway I hardly drove on even when I was still working in Apeldoorn, simply because I had never had a reason to be there, so I used today's drive to get to know the area.  It is close to the woods of the Utrecht Heuvelrug as well as the Veluwe, quite a different atmosphere to the flatlands of the southwest which were largely under the sea until not so long ago.  Similar to many other communities around Utrecht, the architecture has a touch of elegance with an old-world ambience.  In short, a fairly large segment of rather financially comfortable people live in this area.  Needless to say, the windmill is well cared for.  It is standing in the middle of a roundabout which is almost private -- the driveways of a handful of large houses open onto it, so it is used only by the people who live there.  And, of course, by windmill freaks like the Ellaphant.  Thankfully, the roundabout itself is open to the public.  You can't see Teqla, but she's parked right behind the mill.

Traffic on the way back but I had left Walderveen on time, so I was also on time for AW, who needed the car for the usual Tuesday evening live bridge in Oudenbosch.  A quiet evening followed, including kitchen duties.  Tomorrow, three morning lectures, and then it's most likely that I"ll go hunting again.  Best to take advantage of the cloudless sky as it has been predicted to turn grey again on Thursday.
