Proud and Ever Living
Wath upon Dearne War Memorial
... lies within the grounds of All Saints Parish Church
In proud and ever living memory of the men of this town who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-1918. This memorial erected by the townspeople of Wath and District was unveiled by Major E D B Johnson MC TD on the 25th of September 1921. A total of 237 men died for the Great War.
The memorial plaque behind the Memorial reads:
In proud and ever living memory of those who gave their lives in the World War 1939-1945..
And names of all who gave their lives listed therein -- 15 from The Royal Navy, 33 from The Army and 14 fromThe Royal Air Force..
The All Saints Parish Church
-- is a Norman built architecture that has stood there for more than 1000 years. Over the years the building has grown, been altered and adapted. Saxons and Normans, Tudors and Elizabethans, Victorians and even the people of today have left their mark on it. The steep-pitch roofline dates around the 1150. I was told that inside the church is another plaque on the East Window Dedicated to the Glory of God in Memory of the men who fell in the Great War, this differs from the list on the War Memorial.
