Birthday Outing
It was Richard’s birthday today. So his choice was to have a walk taking in Low and High Force in Teesdale. He went to school at Barnard Castle so it was interesting to drive past the school today. When he attended it was a direct grant Grammar school and he sat an entrance exam. He couldn’t believe the fees today’s students pay.
We decided to walk up to Gibson’s Cave near the car park. Well worth detouring to see top right in the extra.
The visitors centre was still closed so no refreshments available. Not far away was Low Force with a walk to High Force as an option. There was a bitterly cold wind blowing down the valley. The main shows the force of water tumbling over the rocks.
Plans to walk to High Force had to be abandoned when Richard slipped on the rocks. Despite wearing a padded jacket the thin skin on his arms sloughed off and needed treatment. Once the arm was sorted we enjoyed a birthday meal out.
Home tomorrow but we have really enjoyed our stay.
