Brush Fence

Brush Fences are a peculiarly South Australian phenomenon.  I'm not even sure where the brush comes from, but it's ubiquitous, especially in the older suburbs.

Naturally enough, it was the fence of choice when initially installed at OGH, very many years ago.  And now it's being replaced!!  Doesn't it look amazing!  Being 100% natural it deteriorates over time, pretty much the same as thatch - hence it has to be replaced about every 15-20 years.

The stump in the foreground is a remnant of the first cork oak to be planted in the Belair NP, in the early 1870's.  It was burnt out by fire, probably in the big fire of 1877.
