Glass Negative Bonanza

Before I explain the box of glass negatives, I'll start with a report about Merry.

Merry aced her physical exam easily, no fever, lost just a few ounces, nothing major. Then we discussed her eyesight issues. The vet is a liver specialist, but went to borrow an instrument from the ophthalmologists to examine her. (We were at a large VCA Hospital with lots of medical specialities.) Merry's lenses were so cloudy that she could not see her retinas. So, we have an appointment next week with the Ophthalmology Department. Then Merry had her blood pressure taken, a tiny cuff and a small area shaved on her paw underside. She's totally well behaved at the vets, her old show cat behaviors kick in. BP was perfect, so that's not a cause of any eye troubles. They took her into the lab for the blood panel. $717 later we took her home and waited for the lab results. Dr Cornetta called at dinner time, some good news, some of the high liver values have improved, but her bilirubin count is higher. The vet wants her to have another ultra$ound after the eye exam next Wednesday. It's been two years since her last one. We have okayed that, expensive and it involves shaving her tummy, she hates being cold, so she will not be amused. That's all we know now. We will have to see the results of these exams to make any decisions further treatments.



Now to the blip photo, a box of glass negatives, circa 1900 taken by members of my paternal Josselyn side of the family. A friend from the historical society bought the lot at an auction at the home of my grandfather's half brother's daughter in 1992. Our family missed the auction because we were in Maine. It was quite interesting, my great grandfather's Civil War uniform trousers sold for $5000( I have been in contact with the gentleman who bought them from the person who purchased them at the auction.) Anyway, this box of glass treasures is on loan to me to scan and digitize. The Irving written on the envelope was my grandfather's older step brother. My grandfather's father was married twice. He lost his first wife from typhoid and was left with three young children. He remarried a much younger woman and had 10 more, the last born when he was 73! He outlived the younger second wife by 9 years, passing away at almost 102. I cannot wait to get some white gloves and dive into this project.
