Titanic Works

This has been on my list of potential Blips for a while! If today had been as bright and sunny as yesterday I'd have gone back to the Arboretum and took shots of the lovely crocuses currently blooming there and took part in Flower Friday. But yesterday's spring-like weather seems like a dream now, as there's a decidedly wintry feeling in the air today, and the sky is very cloudy.

I like the CS ghost sign and brick-work of this old building, so called because it is the same size (In length at least...) as the Titanic was. CS is Clayton & Shuttleworth. They began in 1845 making steam engines and later other machinery such as threshing machines and traction engines.

In 1916 they started making aircraft for WW1. The Sopwith Camel flown by Canadian pilot Roy Brown who was credited with shooting down the Red Baron was made here! More info if you're interested!

I may Blip the building again some time from a different angle. These days it's been divided into individual units and is used by several companies and organisations.

Work was very, very quiet last night. Hekmat had worked with Zeiyit the previous night, so all the cleaning got done. After such a warm day yesterday, it was once again very cold in the evening, and as it was quiet the kebabs were off virtually all night. I was freezing all the time despite having all my extra layers on. It was so good when home time came around and I could get warmed up!
