Catkins

There are two in the frame, but the long (male) one is out of focus.  The female part is tiny, so my lens was quite close to the small pinkish flower or styles.  I know little about the plant, but that's what it says on the Sussex Wildlife Trust website.

The hazels that I was using as my subject are over a nearby hill and down a small lane.  There is only one house down there, yet a car passed me while I was fiddling with tripod (with Wimperley clamp) and camera – a couple of visitors were checking the place that they had booked for a holiday stay in May, at that solitary house (see the Extra here).
