Prop maker

Lovely lunch with my heritage watch colleague and a quick catch up with my friend H who surprised me with such thoughtful gifts and a beautifully worded card.

Impromptu afternoon with the castle conservator making a prop for a display after I popped my head in the office for a quick cuppa. Happy to lend my assistance and as always the conversation was great. He has so many great stories of past projects at historic properties.

The photo is a 1930s typewriter, part of the “writing room” display. Our creation was a roll of tapestry wrapped in brown paper which in reality is a cardboard roll covered in hessian, blankets and brown paper. At approx 12 ft long it took a while but hopefully the effect will be worth it when a period correct style label is added.

Looking forward to returning next week for two days’ volunteering renumbering and organising objects in the collection.
