Western Meadowlark
Wonderful surprise on the dike wetlands today; we first heard a Western Meadowlark, then were able to see it singing. It is Oregon's state bird, but not at all common where the once plentiful prairies are now cultivated fields. We've gone east of the mountains to listen to it's melodious singing, but never have we encountered one here nearby. It felt like a very good gift!
