Our last Day
Today is our last day in Dorset, England. We have to get up at 3.45am to be able to get to Southampton Airport in time to catch a flight to Avignon, France. Early start for Trish and Terry who are taking us there. We are indebted.
So today we all went to West Bay, and picked up Trish and Alice's Mum, and went to the Abbotsbury Swannery. We wanted to return as the last time we were there we were told that the cygnets were late in hatching, but they expected the first hatching on May 16th.
They were dead right, there were 3 nests that were in the process of hatching, but there was only the one that we could see. And we were lucky to see the cygnets at all, poking out from under Mum, and she did get off the nest for a short time, and we could see that 5 had hatched, one was in the process of cracking. There was rain, sunshine and thunder, and the cygnets felt their first rain.
The mother got back on the nest, and stood right on the egg that was cracking open, and we heard a real crack, so do not know what happened to that cygnet.
It was a great way to finish our stay here in Dorset.
Stopped off to take some more Bluebells in a wood, and Alice spotted a little deer.
We have missed out on photographing a fox, a badger, or a squirrel!! will have to come back.
Trish cooked a special roast chicken dinner tonight - scrumptious.
Case is almost packed, so will not be long before I am off to bed.
