Pape's Cottages
This picture shows three cottages in a row, known as 'Pape's Cottages'. Constructed to the design of Edinburgh architects John Watson and David McArthy in 1894 on the instructions of George Pape for the use of three poor widows. There's a sandstone plaque on the end of the row nearest Roseburn Terrace that reads 'In accordance with the will of George Pape of Coltbridge House these cottages were built for the use of three poor widows in all time coming'. Category C listed, they are sadly no longer occupied by three poor widows! Try as I might, I can't find any more information about George Pape. If anyone can shed some light on the gentleman's life I'd be interested to hear.
