Saturday: Lamanai

We have long wanted to visit Lamanai, one of the key Mayan sites here.  As we were in Orange Walk yesterday we made the most of it and booked a tour. 

The best way to approach Lamanai is by boat.  We were picked up by the hotel jetty early morning and then had a 75 minute boat ride to Lamanai.  The wildlife and scenery was fantastic.  

The down side is that we had to go with a guided tour which is really not our preferred method.  Our guide today was called ‘Coconut Pete’ and kept referring to himself in the third person……enough said.

But it was still spectacular and one of the best sites we have been to.
