Inspired by an ancient tree.
Although two of its limbs are lying in the grass, this ancient black alder tree is still very much alive and hosting countless living creatures big and small.
Alders used to be the preferred wood for making clogs, and a few alder leaves placed in the shoes before a long journey would cool the feet and prevent swelling.
That’s just the thing for a walk in the Lake District. We had better not let on. Hundreds of walkers pass this way!
