Iced Lavender
What a night and day, a National State of Emergency was announced - NZ's North Island have been absolutely pummeled by cyclone Gabrielle, carnage everywhere, apocalypse is a word used. A volunteer fireman has been killed while being in a house which was engulfed when the hill behind came down on him and his mate....the mate was found and in a critical condition. Many people having to get onto their roofs to wait for many hours to be rescued, the winds too dangerous for helicopters to fly. Later this afternoon the rescues are ongoing. Power outages throughout, cell towers toppled, no communications, emergency centres set up and full to overflowing. Roads closed, some totally impassable with slips taking away the roads, bridges washed away. Land is moving in many places and will continue too, coastlines eroded, I could go on. Its all just too much to take for these folk, who have lost everything.
And here we are, safe and dry, it really is so upsetting to see what they are going through, and what they will have to deal with for many days, weeks, months and even years to come. More heavy rains and winds expected in some places again tonight and then she (Gabrielle) is moving offshore, with the Chatham Islands now in her path.
My blip is using the iced flowers from yesterday.....I got one out of the freezer this afternoon, mainly to find something tiny for Tiny Tuesday. I guess there are lots of little bubbles and the wee flowers withing the ice are also tiny. I like the painterly look to the one in extra. (since deleeted)
