Railwaymen
Grandma and Grandad drove up to Canberra today to give us a special treat: our very first trip on a train. Here we are at Kingston Station ready to board, and the fun really began a few minutes later when Mr Driver let us sit in his cabin. Then we went back to our carriage to our seats, waved goodbye through the window to Mummy and Daddy - and, with a honk of the horn, we were off.
The train was going to Sydney, and there were lots of passengers, but we were only going as far as Bungendore today, a half-hour journey. We stopped at Queanbeyan on the way to pick up a few more people, then the track took us out into the bush. We saw kangaroos, cattle and horses, and once, when the train was hugging the side of a mountain, we saw a river far below. And we went through three tunnels.
Mummy and Daddy were driving out to Bungendore for our arrival - but we beat them by two minutes. After they caught up with us, we all got into our car and drove back to Canberra for fish and chips at Fyshwick Markets.
