These supports have done a great job over the years holding up planks of decking on the local wharf which was built over one hundred years ago.

Cyclone Gabrielle - this link shows damaged homes and property in the Esk Valley. A glimpse of heartbreaking damage, no doubt a scene repeated many times in numerous areas of Hawkes Bay. Watermarks high on roofs can be seen, some homes were completely submerged, mounds of silt and logs left behind, vehicles tossed upside down. Where would you start with cleaning up!
Earthquake. From the GNS website last night’s quake happened in the country’s subduction zone, the area where the Pacific continental plate is slowly moving beneath the Australasian plate – often triggering seismic events.
Other than a good shake I haven’t read any reports of damage in today’s news.
