East West Rail

We have a project running to reinstate the railway from Cambridge in the east to Oxford in the west. There is talk of extending the connection from Cambridge to the east coast, Harwich, so the route would serve passengers and freight.

Much of the line is a refurbishment of an old line but it is being upgraded to twin track and all the surrounding infrastructure is being up dated. (Embankments, drainage, bridges and fencing)

The blip shows the only brand new station at Winslow and one of the new tracks laid last week. the extra is further east near Bletchley where both tracks have been laid. 

It is interesting to see the project progress and it makes one realise how difficult it must have been to lay the original track before the days of sophisticated equipment.
